Get to Know Us

What began as a simple idea over lunch in 2019 - to raise funds for the local food bank through community events - has since grown into a powerful grassroots movement. Despite disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic, the group of dedicated local women has raised more than $54,000 to combat food insecurity in the area.

Operating under the formal mandate of “Taking the Bite out of Hunger,” the organization is not only focused on food bank support, but also on building a stronger, more connected community. Their mission goes beyond fundraising -they aim to support local businesses and bring residents together through events that make a real difference.

With the formation of a board and a structured management team, Wasaga Beach Bite is laying the groundwork for sustainable growth. The team is currently developing policies and procedures to guide their operations and help them stay focused on their goals as the organization evolves.

Today, the group comprises 14 active members dedicated to taking meaningful action. Each event they organize reflects a clear purpose: to help their neighbours, uplift small businesses and create spaces where community thrives.

“Wasaga Beach Bite is about more than just raising money,” says Councillor Ellen Timms, a founding member.  “It’s about creating momentum. When people come together, amazing things can happen. Now we’re ready to take that to the next level.”

The group’s next steps include expanding outreach, solidifying partnerships, and continuing to serve as a bridge between those who need help and those who want to help.

In a time when many are feeling the strain of rising food costs and economic uncertainty, Wasaga Beach Bite stands as a reminder that community spirit, when harnessed with purpose, can be a powerful force for change.
